What A Dysregulated Nervous System Can Feel Like

What a dysregulated Nervous System can feel like:

🔥Overdrive: a racing heart, clenched jaw, tight chest or stomach. Constant muscle bracing. Racing thoughts. You just can’t seem to relax for long no matter what you do.

👎Shut down: numb, checked out and exhausted. You find it difficult to feel anything and are just going through the motions.

✨Regulated: able to relax and enjoy your life in the moment with a calm mind and relaxed body.

It does not mean being perfectly calm and happy 100% of the time. Instead, a regulated nervous system is responsive.

You can feel nervous or sad. You allow emotions and are able to process them and return to your baseline once the stressor has passed. You can roll with it.

When your nervous system is dysregulated it can automatically impact your sleep and breathing. And so much more.

🛏️Sleep: can cause light sleep, feeling wired at bedtime or cortisol spikes at the wrong time where you might wake up suddenly with racing heart.

🫁Breathing: shallow and fast breathing along with muscle tension that limits our ability to breathe deeply.

This is just one of the foundations we work on for better sleep and breathing.
